I'd like to know what everyone thinks of having Quidditch as forum mini-game so post your comments here if you want.

Lady Sugah Sim- 07-14-2006

Could you give me some details of the game, S?

Darth sharrakor- 07-14-2006

alright let me go retrieve the rules from a PM I sent to myself.

Lady Sugah Sim- 07-14-2006

Thank you. And over 200 posts back and forth with a certain girl at a forum you frequent? Does she live anywhere remotely near you? What are you two chattin' so much about? Halo? Dogs? Life and love???

How exactly are the games going to be played? I find it highly unlikely it will be successful if a writer gets to write what happens. Two examples to show where the problems will show up. Example One Slytherin Chaser 1 twirls the Quaffle towards Slytherin Chaser 2. (Slytherin Chaser 1) Slytherin Chaser 2 receives the pass and strikes the ball toward the pitch. (Slytherin Chaser 2) Ravenclaw Keeper streaks in and knocks the ball away. (Ravenclaw Keeper) *I hope everyone realizes whats in parenthesis is the poster. Now this will become tiresome and the Chasers will get tired of having the Keeper always knock the ball away from the pitch letting nothing through. Slytherin Keeper zooms after Snitch grabbing a hold of it. (Slytherin Keeper) Now these two examples show that abuse is going to happen if we have the matches with straight RPing by the players. Having a DM from one of the other teams or a non-quidditch player might work but in the end I feel some people will think the DMs have favorites. I propose this. Now with the set-up finished I will explain how we would go about playing the game. The balls are released and the game begins. Every person gets a turn to make one action move per round. You can not complete the action, if you succeed or fail will be up to what happens with the Referee (DM). Blue Chaser 1 zooms after the Quaffle trying to catch up to it. (1,2,6) Red Beater 2 aims at an oncoming Bludger attempting to hit it towards Blue Chaser 1. (3,5,6) Now each action move is followed by 3 numbers between the range of 1-6. The DM would take a die and roll it. That means you have a 50-50 chance of getting one of the 3 numbers you picked. If the DM rolls one of your numbers the action succeeds if the DM rolls a number you did not pick the action fails. So lets say the DM rolls a 2 for first action and a 1 for the second. That means the Blue Chaser caught the Quaffle but the Red Beater 2 either missed the Bludger or hit it and it sailed off in a different direction. Once you find out if the action failed or succeeded you can then role-play what happens after the action and then role-play your next action. So the next round would be something like. Blue Chaser 1 snatches the Quaffle and heads toward the Red teams pitch. Turning a 180 Blue Chaser 1 lobs the ball to Blue Chaser 3. ( 1,2,3) Swinging hard Red Beater 2 connects solidly with the bludger but to his dismay it sails over to top of his targets head. Moving to intercept Blue Chaser 2, Red Beater 2 swings his bludger at Blue Chaser 1 head. (2,3,6) In a case like this whoever posts their action first would have it occur first in that round. If both succeed then the Quaffle is thrown toward Blue Chaser 3 but Red Beater connects with Blue Chaser 1 head. And so on and so forth until someone scores. Now since catching the Snitch is a little mort important I would say every action only gets 1 number instead of three. Red Seekers spots the snitch. (1) Then you have a 1/6th chance of seeing it or not. The Referee can at any time fill in things. Like if I was to post the above line and it succeeded because the referee rolled a 1 then the referee could leave it like that or put something like. The Red Seeker saw something zoom across the other side of the arena. Something the seeker instantly realized was the snitch. That would mean the Seeker would have to use an action to catch up to the Snitch before he could actually attempt to grab it ending the game. If the referee only decides to post if it succeeded or not that leaves the poster to come up with where the Snitch is seen at. during game time the respective members of each team will post their actions three at a time. For example: Red chaser 1 posts: Red Chaser 1 sped towards the other team's goal, getting ready to shoot. Red Beater 2 posts: Red Beater 2 swung back his arm and hit a bludger at the Blue team's seeker. (3,5,6) Red Chaser 1 posts: Red Chaser 1 got to the other team's goal and threw the quaffle at the left goal. then the Referee, most likely me, would post something like: The seeker for Blue Team is hit by a nasty bludger as red chaser 1 scores! scoring will be dependent on many factors, and the capture of the Snitch is decided by coin flip when a Seeker can near it. this result will basically tell us when the game is over, but is only constrained to the 48 hours. players may only play the positions assigned. oh yeah and the referee would be me. Whenever Gryffindor plays I would have to ref and be a player but I could do it fairly and I feel that you guys can trust me not to swing things one way or another by giving out false results. If you have any questions please ask here in this thread...

no more keepers. they're useless and all point scoring will rely on chasers.

JackCarver- 08-09-2006

scoring a goal is now worth 25 points. catching the snitch is worth 75 points.

Darth sharrakor- 08-09-2006

alright JC, I think your new/repaired rules make it a better game. If there's any new rules you need to post, go ahead and post em here but for now... this thread is locked.

Darth sharrakor- 08-13-2006

*unlocks* game ends either when one team reaches 150 points or when the snitch is caught by a seeker. Please remember this is necessary to keep match length to a minimal amount. *locks again*

Quidditch will soon be re-opened, except it will be changed up a bunch to make the game much more simple...for both refs and players. JC will work on revising the rules as soon as he starts feeling better.

<*>You will all still be participating within your houses.<*>Each player will receive 3 HP<*>For each time you are hit by a bludger, you lose 1 HP<*>When a bludger is hit at you, you have 24 hours to post dodge bludger<*>For each Quaffle you shoot into the hoops, you receive 10 points.<*>You have three things you are allowed to do during your house's turn<*>You can either shoot a Quaffle at the hoops, or you can shoot a bludger at a member of the other house, or you can attempt to dodge a bludger<*>dodges have a 50% chance of success<*>If you shoot a bludger, you must specify which specific player you are shooting at<*>The game ends when all the players on one team have been eliminated, or when one team reaches 200 points<*>If you win, then your house receives a bonus 100 points to go along with however many points you received during the regular match<*>Note: It will be played by house turns, not player turns. In other words, Neeco can't post that he's shooting a bludger, just to be immediately followed by a post by me saying that I'm shooting a Quaffle<*>all Quaffle shots will be defended against by an invisible keeper, you have a 50% chance of scoring If I think of anything else, I shall update this list and inform you all of the update. But for now, that is all. :D
